The annual expenditure on accommodation of households in the United Kingdom amounted to approximately 11.75 billion British pounds in 2020, down 52.8 percent from the previous year. Spending was particularly lower during the second quarter of the year, reaching as low as 118 million British pounds between April and June 2020. That was 98 percent less than in the same period of 2019. The annual expenditure on accommodation by UK households significantly declined in 2020 due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic which resulted in strict stay-at-home measures implemented across the country to control the spread of the virus. In the fourth quarter of 2021, consumer spending reached 7.7 billion.
