Although cow’s cheese was the most produced type of cheese, the production of goat cheese has increased over the past years: from around * tons in 2008 to more than ** tons in 2019. That year, France exported more than ** tons of cheese, while almost ** tons were sold on the retail market in France in 2019.

Cheese consumption in France

Known for their consumption of dairy products, the French appear to largely enjoy consuming cheese regularly: more than half of the respondents in a survey from 2019 declared eating some cheese daily or several times a week. However, while people aged older than 50 years old were more than ** percent to answer consuming cheese at least once a week, they were just about ** percent of people aged less than 35 years old to say so.
