Between 2009 and 2019, the volume of fresh fish and seafood sold in France has been steadily decreasing across all distribution channels, with a slight increase in recent years. Most French households have been purchasing their fresh fish and seafood products at hyper and supermarkets rather than at other retailers. In 2021, over 215,000 tons of fresh seafood products were purchased by French households, and around 158,700 tons were sold at hyper-, supermarkets, and discounters.
