Contactless payments in Poland

Over five years, the number of contactless payments has steadily increased from 396.9 thousand in the fourth quarter of 2015 to 1.02 million in the fourth quarter of 2020. A very similar situation applied to non-cash payments. Between 2015 and 2020, there was an increase in this type of payment. In the fourth quarter of 2015, the number of transactions amounted to approximately 673 million. By the fourth quarter of 2020, transactions grew to over 1.45 billion. The share of contactless payments in Poland's total number of non-cash card payments reached over 96 percent in the second half of 2021.

POS card payments in Poland

From 2009, the number of POS terminals being payment processing devices was steadily growing. At the end of 2020, over one million of them had been recorded. Another increase was seen in the number of card payments at POS terminals. In 2020, there were over one million POS terminals with a total number of 5.8 billion payments. There was also a significant increase in the value of transactions at POS terminals with some fluctuation during this time. In the fourth quarter of 2015, the value of transactions amounted to approximately 47.8 billion zloty. By the fourth quarter of 2020, it had increased to over 94 billion zloty.
