Over the last two decades, consumption of wine has continued to decline and reached its lowest in 2024. This is also the case for the consumption per capita. A French consumer used to drink** liters of wine in 2007, whereas the consumption went down to **** liters per capita in 2024. 

Shopping behavior

Every French home has a special place for wine. A special mention should be made of wine with a Protected Designation of Origin (Appellation d'Origine Protégée) and without geographical indication (Sans Indication Géographique). Since 2019, the average number of PDO wine purchased by French households fell below ** bottles. When it comes to price, the French spent more money on a liter of PDO wine than on a liter of IGP wine, as both types of wines have been experiencing rising prices in recent years.
