The figures for 2024 to 2028 are projections. The figures for 2005 to 2017 were retrieved from previous report editions.
¹ From 2017, the source makes a more refined distinction between the consumer and professional books segments. This means that previous year's figures are only comparable to a limited extent. The source does not show any values ​​for professional books (technical and non-fiction books) in GEMO 2023-2027 and GEMO 2024-2028. The values ​​come from previous year's publications.Â
Fiction (or consumer) also includes children's and young adult books. From GEMO 2022-2026, this also includes guides and non-fiction books, previously these were classified as non-fiction and specialist books.Â
Non-fiction and specialist books (or professional) contain specialist books from the fields of humanities, art, music, natural sciences, medicine, IT, technology, social sciences, law and science. (from 2017)

The following categories were considered: reference books and nonfiction, textbooks and schoolbooks, and fiction (print and e-books). For 2024, PwC had forecast a revenue of roughly *** billion euros for the fiction segment.
