In 2025, the production volume of tequila amounted to million liters, with mixed tequila accounting for the largest share. Due to the boom in popularity on a global scale, tequila production has increased recently. The production volume of 100% agave tequila reached million liters in 2025.

Tequila 100% is made, as the name suggests, 100% from blue agave. This type is considered pure, has a range of flavors and aromas, and is preferred by tequila enthusiasts and connoisseurs alike. On the other hand, the tequila without the 100% agave label is usually mixed with other sugars during the fermentation process. Sometimes called "tequila mixto", this type of tequila is recommended for cocktails.

Regardless of whether they are 100% agave tequila or a tequila mixto, all varieties are made from the blue agave that grows in specific parts of Mexico. While most of it comes from the state of Jalisco, it can also be found in some municipalities in neighboring states.
