Unprovoked attacks are defined as incidents where an attack on a live human occurs in the shark’s natural habitat with no human provocation of the shark.
In 2025, there were 65 unprovoked shark attacks registered in the world, of which nine were fatal. The highest number was reported in the United States, accounting for 25 of such shark attacks, with one fatal attack being registered.
