Age is based on the age of the sole or co-decisionmaker for household saving and investing. This figure measures willingness to take investment risk for equivalent gain—for example, willingness to take above-average or substantial risk for above-average or substantial gain.

As of 2021, almost half of the U.S. households born between 1965 and 1980 (Generation X) were willing to take above-average or substantial investment risks. Furthermore, 41 percent of millennial and Generation Z respondents were willing to take investment risks.
