Nintendo's fiscal year runs from April 1 to March 31 of the following year. Digital sales include (a) downloadable version of packaged software (the downloadable version of software that is offered both physically and digitally), (b) download-only software, (c) add-on content and (d) Nintendo Switch Online, etc.
In the fiscal year ending March 2025, downloadable versions of packaged gaming software accounted for 46.9 percent of Nintendo's digital gaming sales, down from a 51.5 percent share in the previous fiscal year. This indicated the increasing popularity of digital exclusives and independent games, as well as digital add-on content.
