The combined transportation services index (TSI) is a combination of the freight and the passenger TSI.
The freight TSI measures the month-to-month changes in freight shipments in ton-miles, which are then combined into one index. The index measures the output of the for-
hire freight transportation industry and consists of data from for-hire trucking, rail, inland waterways, pipelines and air freight.
The passenger transportation services index measures the month-to-month changes in travel conducted in the
for-hire passenger transportation sector. The index consists of data
from air, local transit and intercity rail.
The TSI is seasonally adjusted and measures changes from the monthly average of the base year of 2000, i.e., monthly average of 2000 is TSI 100. More information on the TSI is available .
