The U.S. imported roughly 92 thousand barrels per day of petroleum from Venezuela in the first half of 2019. This was a considerable decline compared to the previous year, when 586 thousand barrels per day were imported.
In January 2019, the United States Department of Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control imposed a sanction on Venezuela's oil sector, blocking transactions between certain actors and U.S. companies or individuals. Since mid-2019, no imports from the South American country have been reported.
