Figures refer to sent payment transactions and are rounded. In 2014 the ECB introduced an enhanced methodological and reporting framework for payments statistics, in line with SEPA-related reforms and Regulation ECB/2013/43 on payments statistics. As a result, reported numbers of credit transfers and direct debits from 2014 onwards are not fully comparable with data for earlier years, and the visible break in the series mainly reflects this methodology change rather than an underlying shift in payment behaviour.

Percentages may not add up to 100 percent as remaining payment services, being cheques, money remittances and other payment services, are not shown.

Citation formats

Credit transfer transaction value accounted for more than 90 percent of all payment transaction value in Austria in 2024, by far the largest share among payment services. Direct debits followed, with approximately five percent. E-money payments and cheques had practically no share.
