A serious accident is defined as: "Any accident involving at least one moving railway vehicle and causing death or serious injury to at least one person or significant damage to rolling stock, tracks, or other facilities, or major traffic disruptions. Accidents occurring in workshops, warehouses, and depots are not included."

This statistic shows the number of serious accidents that occurred on the railway network in France between 2010 and 2021. In 2021, there were 138 bodily injury accidents on the French railway network. This is the first time since 2016 that this number has exceeded 130 accidents, even matching 2011. 2020 was the year least affected by bodily injury accidents, with 105 incidents recorded.
