The war between Ukraine and Russia has directly affected the trade of sunflower oil, especially in countries like Germany where for weeks it was not possible to find this dressing in supermarkets, and even when stocks were replenished, the purchase volume per family had to be limited due to scarcity. This situation is not surprising considering that the nations involved in the conflict are precisely the main exporters of sunflower oil in the world. In the 2022/2023 season, Ukraine exported approximately *** million metric tons of this oil, a volume that is estimated to increase slightly in 2023/2024. Meanwhile, around **** million metric tons of this type of oil left Russian borders in 2022/2023, and forecasts indicate that the amount will reach *** million during the 2023/2024 commercial season.
