The amount of the minimum retirement pension in Argentina in March 2025, including the reinforcement bonus, amounted to 349,094.4 pesos in current prices. This represented an increase of 1.76 percent compared to the previous month, thus maintaining the positive trend observed since January 2023, which did not change despite the entry of a new government at the end of that year. So, why do retirees complain every Wednesday in front of the National Congress in Buenos Aires in protests that, in the case of the one held on March 12, 2024, ended with at least 20 injured and more than 100 arrests? The reason is that, despite the constant increase, there is a loss of purchasing power due to inflation and the higher cost of living. In fact, taking this into account, the amount received by the holders of the social security system of the National Social Security Administration (Anses) decreased by about 826.5 pesos compared to February and by more than 23,000 pesos since Milei took office as president.
