Calculated on a base of 100 with the year 2010 as the reference, the price indices of imported raw materials are chained Laspeyres indices.
The weightings represent the share of each raw material in the total imports of raw materials. They are updated every year in March.
The prices of raw materials are spot prices (quantities purchased for immediate delivery). These are reference prices for the market.
The prices are monthly averages of quotations in currencies (mainly in U.S. dollars) expressed in euros.

Imported Food Product Price Indices in France 2010-2024
The international price index for raw materials, and more specifically food products, has increased significantly over the past two years, reaching in March 2020. While the COVID-19 pandemic considerably raised the index, which rose to in March 2021, it is truly the war between Ukraine and Russia that greatly amplified the index, reaching in December 2024.
If the price of imports rises, this then increases the country's trade deficit, and France has had a trade deficit for many years.
