Many countries in Central Asia and Africa are heavily, even completely, dependent on wheat imports from Russia or Ukraine. This is the case, for example, of Mongolia, Armenia, and Benin, which are 100 percent dependent on Russian imports. Other countries like Moldova and Lebanon are mostly dependent on Ukrainian wheat imports. The war in Ukraine could have serious consequences on Russian and Ukrainian wheat exports, causing shortages in the countries that depend on them.
