The precise source: "The electric pulse gun (EPG) is an intermediate force weapon (IFW) whose general deployment across all national police services began in 2007. Its legal framework for use and conditions of utilization are specified in a joint instruction for the police and gendarmerie dated August 2, 2017 (No. 4585A DGPN). A new instruction, taking into account the new EPG model, came into effect at the beginning of this year (2021). The old model (X26) consists of an electric pulse generator system and is used, if necessary, in deterrent mode by simply pointing a laser beam, by direct contact, and finally, at close range, by projecting two barbs that remain connected to the weapon by two conductive wires. According to the manufacturer's data, the new model (T7) has many improvements, including a green laser that improves daytime aiming, more efficient barbs, an electric charge with a faster frequency, and finally a more powerful deterrent electric arc."
