* The survey was conducted with three samples according to the territory:
- Mainland France: 3,011 people;
- Corsica: 601 people;
- Overseas departments and regions (DROM): 803 people.
The survey was carried out using a self-administered online questionnaire for respondents from the mainland and by telephone for respondents from the DROM and Corsica.

Level of attachment to local or national identity by territory in France 2021
The level of attachment to one’s municipality, department, region, or country varied significantly depending on whether one was a resident of mainland France, Corsica, or the overseas departments and regions (DROM). Mainland French people seemed to primarily identify as residents of their municipality rather than their department or region. In contrast, Corsicans identified primarily as residents of their region rather than as residents of France or their municipality. Residents of the DROM considered themselves primarily as residents of France.
