Over 40 years, the average number of students per class in France has changed differently depending on the level of education. In kindergarten, the number of students per class has greatly decreased, going from more than 30 students in 1980 to 22 students in 2022. In middle school, the number of students per class has increased, rising from 23 to about 26 students per class on average. The highest number of students per class in 2022 was found in general and technological high schools, and the lowest in vocational high schools.
