Gentle medicine (also called alternative, non-conventional, or natural medicine) refers to therapeutic practices other than those derived from classical medicine (also called allopathic) and which originate from Eastern, ancestral, or innovative traditions. Among alternative medicines, one can find acupuncture (from Chinese medicine), Ayurvedic medicine, phytotherapy, osteopathy, hypnosis, homeopathy, and naturopathy. Critics of this type of medicine denounce the lack of evidence of effectiveness other than a placebo effect for these techniques.
