5G penetration rate among male mobile phone owners in Japan 2025, by age group
According to a survey conducted in Japan in January 2025, about  of male mobile phone owners aged 15 to 19 years were using a 5G connection. The share was lower among older age groups. The rollout of commercial 5G services by Japan's major mobile carriers NTT Docomo, KDDI, and SoftBank started in March 2020. Rakuten Mobile, which became the country’s fourth major carrier in 2020, started its 5G rollout in September of that year.
