The Holy See's total revenue amounted to 546.5 million euros in 2024. Unlike other countries, the Holy See cannot raise taxes on its citizens. Hence, the largest source of revenue was external donations from Catholic faithfuls, dioceses, and other foundations. In fact, the Holy See collected more than 237 million euros from donations. The second-largest revenue source was self-generated revenues, accounting for more than 217 million euros. These consist of, among others, the Vatican Museums, the tourism sector, and publishing royalties.
