The following information was added by the source; MSCI ESG Ratings assess companies based on their Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) performance relative to industry peers. These ratings are assigned on a global seven-band scale, ranging from AAA (leader) to CCC (laggard), reflecting how well a company manages ESG risks and opportunities. The Environmental, Social and Governance pillars are weighted equally, and ranked on a scale from 0 to 10 each. Percentile scores range from 0 to 100, where a higher percentile indicates a stronger ESG performance compared to peers:
96–100 → Best in class
76–95 → Above average
26–75 → Average
6–25 → Below average
0–5 → Worst in classÂ
These rankings help investors and stakeholders identify leaders and laggards in ESG performance across different sectors and markets.

ESG score
The total ESG score evaluates the environmental, social, and governance dimensions of companies. However, many other factors are taken into account. The type of industry and markets the companies operate within, the ESG risks the entities are exposed to and which management measures have been implemented to mitigate these risks are all important considerations. While the individual environmental, social, and governance ratings do play a major role in creating a firm's overall rating, these secondary factors are important when creating a comparison between multiple industries.
Adoption of ESG policies across Latin America
Although some companies have successfully integrated ESG into their strategy, the overall adoption of formal ESG policies in Latin America shows room for growth. As of 2024, ** percent of surveyed companies reported having a formal sustainability or ESG policy in place. One of the possible reasons behind this fact is the lack of regulation and policy incentive that push and guide companies to integrate ESG in their strategy.Â
