In Sudan, the conflict began on 25 April 2023 between two factions of the Sudanese military, the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). This combat then escalated into a devastating civil war. As a consequence, nearly *** million displaced persons have sought refuge in neighboring African countries as of February 2026. Most of them are in Egypt, which hosts more than *** million refugees from Sudan. South Sudan follows as having the second-largest number, with around *** million Sudanese refugees.
