Somalia is one of the countries with the highest terrorism threat levels in the world. In 2024, the terrorism index in this East-African country stood at 7.6 points, the fifth highest in Africa. In the same year, it recorded the seventh-largest number of deaths related to terrorism worldwide. The militant group Al-Shabaab, a jihadist fundamentalist group, was responsible for 99 percent of all terror-related deaths in Somalia in 2024, resulting in 355 deaths.
