Spatial perceptions of the DMZ South Korea 2024

A survey conducted in South Korea in 2024 found that around ** percent of respondents considered the Korean Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) to be a place between the Southern Limit Line and the Northern Limit Line. These lines refer to the disputed de facto maritime borders between North and South Korea. While the DMZ itself is demilitarized, the borders on either side are heavily militarized, with large buffer zones keeping civilians away. About ** percent of respondents associated the DMZ with the Military Demarcation Line that runs through its center, which marks the original front line before both sides agreed to move their troops back to create the buffer zone.
