Domestic aviation represents flights which depart and arrive within the same country. International aviation emissions are assigned to the country of departure.

Global COâ‚‚ emissions from domestic and international aviation 2019-2024, by month
Global carbon dioxide emissions from domestic and international commercial passenger flights were estimated at million metric tons (MtCOâ‚‚) in December 2024. International flights accounted for over ** percent of this total. Emissions in July 2024 were the emissions in the first half of that year. Emissions from commercial flights have been on an upward trend since April 2020, owing to the aviation industry recovering from the impacts of COVID-19. Commercial passenger flight emissions are now back to pre-pandemic levels.
