In 2023, Germany imported 7.1 billion U.S. dollars worth of coal, which was attributable to a 3.2 percent share of the total global coal import value. That was a notable decrease compared to the value of coal imports to Germany the previous year, when coal imports had a value of almost 13 billion U.S. dollars.

The total global coal imports had a sales value of 219.5 billion U.S. dollars in 2023, down from 289.1 billion U.S. dollars the previous year.
