Morocco's electric vehicle market is experiencing a surge in investment and diversity, with Chinese automaker BYD introducing a range of models to cater for various consumer needs. In 2024, BYD's premium Han model was priced at ** Moroccan dirhams, equivalent to about * U.S. dollars, while its most affordable option, the T3 electric cargo van, was available for ** Moroccan dirhams or roughly * U.S. dollars. 

Growing infrastructure and market share

To support the expanding EV market, Morocco has developed a substantial charging infrastructure, with approximately AC stations and *** DC stations as of 2024. This investment in charging facilities aligns with the increasing sales of electrified vehicles. In 2023, Morocco saw hybrid car sales, with projections reaching by the end of 2024. On the other hand, electric vehicle sales were lower, standing at *** units in 2023 but expected to nearly double to *** by the next year.  

Electric vehicle market dynamics

Chinese companies have made significant investments in Morocco's EV industry, around *** billion U.S. dollars as of 2024. The largest investment came from Gotion High-Tech Co., Ltd., which committed *** billion U.S. dollars to build an EV battery factory in Kenitra. Despite the influx of Chinese manufacturers like BYD, which held an percent market share in 2023, the Moroccan EV market remains diverse. Dacia led with a ** percent share, followed by Citroën at ** percent. However, traditional fuel vehicles still dominate, with diesel-powered cars accounting for ** percent of sales in 2023, compared to the *** percent share held by electrified vehicles.
