Several politicians from the right-wing populist AfD party are suspected of having accepted money from the Russian regime to pursue policies in Russia's favor. In addition, an employee of the high-ranking AfD politician Maximilian Krah was arrested on suspicion of having passed on information to the Chinese Secret Service. In a survey conducted in April 2024, around 70 percent of respondents stated that the AfD should reconsider its political proximity to China and Russia. On the other hand, among the AfD party supporters surveyed, around 31 and 37 percent stated that the party should reconsider its political proximity to the two regimes respectively. And 77 percent stated that they find the way Maximilian Krah is treated by the public due to these allegations is over the top.
