Around 1,000 hectoliters of ice wine were tested in the Rhenisch Hesse region in 2023. This was significantly less than in 2022 when around * hectoliters were produced. These tests are official procedures conducted to determine whether the wine can be sold as a "quality" wine. Ice wine is made from grapes that were frozen while still on the vine, making them naturally sweet and eliminating the need for adding sugar.Â
