Kilometers cycled on free-floating shared bikes in Italy increased nearly ** percent in 2023 compared to the previous year. Furthermore, the volume almost tripled from 2021 to 2022. This came alongside a substantial increase in the number of free-floating bikes available on Italian streets in that period.Â
In free-floating bike-sharing schemes, bicycles do not need to be returned to the same location where they were picked up but can be dropped off anywhere within a usually pre-determined geographic area.
