Scania's main production is trucks. Through 2016 to 2018, Scania saw a period of steady growth with truck production climbing from about ** thousand in 2016 up to about ** thousand in 2018. In 2020, Scania saw a decline in production to about ** thousand units. However, production increased significantly in 2021 with about ** thousand units, shortly fell to ** thousand in 2022, and climbed to ** thousand in 2023.
The brief period of decline in production was in the midst of both the COVID-19 pandemic and global semiconductor shortages. It was not only Scania that suffered such losses as the number of cars sold worldwide suffered a decline during that same period.
