According to the source, each respondent receives a score on the Christian nationalism scale based on how much they agree or disagree with five statements. After receiving a composite score between 0 (low) to 1 (high), the respondents are sorted into four groups.
Adherents include respondents with a composite score of 0.75 to one, sympathizers include scores between 0.5 and 0.74, skeptics include those who scored between 0.01 and 0.49. Finally rejecters include those in complete disagreement, with scores of zero.
The statements are, 1) The U.S. government should declare America a Christian nation, 2) U.S. laws should be based on Christian values, 3) If the U.S. moves away from our Christian foundations, we will not have a country anymore, 4) Being Christian is an important part of being truly American, and 5) God has called Christians to exercise dominion over all areas of American society.
