The number of German citizens living in the southern Danish municipalities Sønderborg, Tønder, and Aabenraa increased rapidly in 2021 and 2022. While the number remained relatively stable from 2010 to 2020, it reached in 2022. Some Germans decide to move to Denmark due to better work-life balance in the Scandinavian country. The three municipalities all border Germany.
