In 2022, the Confédération Africaine De Football (CAF) distributed around 65.73 million U.S. dollars as prize money for their tournaments and shares to competition hosting countries. This was the second-highest amount distributed following 2019. The increases in distributions usually coincide with the African Cup of Nations (AFCON or CAN) tournament, which takes place every two years. Indeed, the amount dispersed for AFCON 2021, which occurred in 2022 due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, amounted to slightly over two-thirds of the total distributions.
