Enterococcus faecium is a bacteria present in the microbiota of the human gastrointestinal tract that in some cases can cause bloodstream infections, endocarditis, and peritonitis.
All EU Member States and two EEA countries (Island and Norway) reported data from invasive isolates, except for UK in 2020 and 2021. Roughly 76 percent of the participating countries had a high national representativeness, in terms of covered geographic areas, included acute care hospitals, and microorganisms causing infections.
