Online retailer Digitec Galaxus launched carbon neutral orders back in 2020, to allow online shoppers to compensate for their purchases' carbon footprint. In the twelve months between **** and ****, Digitec customers paid extra fees of *** million Swiss francs.
The carbon compensation measure led to emissions being reduced by * metric tons of carbon dioxide. Country comparisons showed international differences in customer behavior, with German customers placing only percent of their online orders via this sustainable option. In turn, carbon-neutral orders were close to ** percent of the total in Switzerland.
