According to a survey conducted in 2023, ** percent of Black adults believed that the prison system was designed to hold Black people back a great deal or a fair amount in the United States. A further ** percent agreed that the courts and judicial process was designed to hold Black people back, while ** percent shared this belief about the U.S. institution of policing.Â
