The 2021 YRBS sampling frame consisted of all regular public schools (including charter schools), parochial schools, and other private schools with students in at least one of grades 9–12 in the 50 U.S. states and the District of Columbia.
Data are representative of students that were physically active for at least 1 hour on at least 1 day in the week preceding the survey.

A 2021 survey found that around 84.2 percent of American high school students were physically active on at least one day in the last seven days for at least one hour. This was highest for white and American Indian and Alaska Native students. This was lowest for Hispanic, Latino, Black, and African American students.
