In 2024, more than 2,087 death sentences were recorded worldwide. However, the figure is likely to be much higher as many countries do not report the actual number of death sentences. Except for China, where the number of death sentences is estimated to be highest, but figures are not disclosed, the highest number of death sentences was registered in Egypt in 2024.
