These figures are based on a meta-analysis of four different surveys of family caregivers conducted from 2015 to 2019 among caregivers and recipients aged 18 or older who provided care at the time of the survey or within the past month; and assisted with ADLs (such as bathing and dressing), IADLs (such as managing finances or providing transportation), or medical/ nursing tasks (such as medication management or preparing special diets).

In 2021, there were **** family caregivers across the United States. That year, California registered the country's highest number of family caregivers, followed by Texas, Florida, and New York. On the other hand, with an estimated * people, Wyoming registered the lowest number of family caregivers in the U.S. in 2021.
