Battery-electric vehicles were the most popular electric vehicle segment for light passenger vehicles in Portugal, with over * new registrations of this type in 2023. Fully electric vehicles were also the most popular among light commercial vehicles such as vans, with close to battery-electric light goods vehicles sold that year.Â
Alternative fuels were still unpopular among new heavy commercial vehicles, partly due to the charging challenges long-haul heavy goods vehicles face. In 2024, only *** battery-electric heavy commercial vehicles were sold in Portugal.
