Distributions by generation are defined by birth year as follows: Silent and Earlier = born before 1946, Baby Boomer = born 1946-1964, Gen X = born 1965-1980, and Millennial = born 1981 or later.

In the first quarter of 2026, 51.6Â percent of the total wealth in the United States was owned by members of the baby boomer generation. In comparison, millennials owned around 11Â percent of total wealth in the U.S. In terms of population distribution, there was almost an equal share of millennials and baby boomers in the U.S.
