Humza Yousaf won the Scottish National Party (SNP) leadership election in March 2023, also becoming the First Minister of Scotland in the process. After only receiving 11.1 percent of first preference votes, Ash Regan was eliminated from the contest. In the final round, the second-preference votes of Regan voters were distributed to Yousaf and Kate Forbes, with Yousaf winning an overall majority of 52.1 percent in this round.
