Russia did not import oil to Italy in 2023, following exports restrictions after the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
Russia was the leading supplier of crude oil to the country the previous year, although the oil imported from Russia was not consumed by Italian activities: most of the Russian crude oil imports to Italy in 2022 were received by the oil refinery plant ISAB, property of the Swiss company Litasco (branch of the Russian Lukoil), which could not rely on other suppliers.
