In 2021, the number of bus passengers in Istanbul, the most populous city in Turkey and Europe, amounted to *** million people. This represents an increase of almost ** percent compared to the previous year when the numbers were the lowest due to nationwide lockdowns and stay-at-home requirements caused by the coronavirus pandemic. Passenger volume fluctuated throughout the given period and peaked at approximately *** billion passengers in 2019.
