Only three of the leading global copper producers reported increased copper production in the second quarter of 2022 when compared to Q2 2021. United States-based Freeport McMoRan had an annual copper production growth of **** percent between Q2 2021 and Q2 2022. In comparison, Chilean multinational Antofagasta reported a contraction of **** percent in that same period. Reasons for the overall decrease in copper output include lower ore grades and extensive lead times for new mine development.
